Summary

A strange and charming collection of hilariously absurd poetry, writing, and illustration from one of today's most popular young comedians?Ķ

Bo Burnham was a precocious teenager living in his parents' attic when he started posting material on YouTube。 100 million people viewed those videos, turning Bo into an online sensation with a huge and dedicated following。 Bo taped his first of two Comedy Central specials four days after his 18th birthday, making him the youngest to do so in the channel's history。 Now Bo is a rising star in the comedy world, revered for his utterly original and intelligent voice。 And, he can SIIIIIIIIING!

In Egghead, Bo brings his brand of brainy, emotional comedy to the page in the form of off-kilter poems, thoughts, and more。 Teaming up with his longtime friend, artist, and illustrator Chance Bone, Bo takes on everything from death to farts in this weird book that will make you think, laugh and think, "why did I just laugh?"

“IncomparableYou’re incomparable like a…Shit。Like a…”Not every poem is my cup of tea but there are plenty of great poems in this collection! If you’re a fan of his comedy you’ll probably enjoy this book。

i’m biased because i love everything that comes out of this man’s brain, but there’s a reason。 i think we think alike。in the midst of this comedy poetry book, there were a few genuine poems, pieces of really good writing。 sometimes, the poem would start out genuine and then end with a joke, like the way i avoid talking about my feelings by making jokes instead。bo may not have intended it to be this deep。 maybe someday i can ask him。 but, until then, i’ll tell myself it was on purpose。(also, i’d i’m biased because i love everything that comes out of this man’s brain, but there’s a reason。 i think we think alike。in the midst of this comedy poetry book, there were a few genuine poems, pieces of really good writing。 sometimes, the poem would start out genuine and then end with a joke, like the way i avoid talking about my feelings by making jokes instead。bo may not have intended it to be this deep。 maybe someday i can ask him。 but, until then, i’ll tell myself it was on purpose。(also, i’d love to see him write a book (of any kind) nowadays。 this was like looking back on “what。” era bo with the knowledge of “inside” bo’s existence。 fascinating。) 。。。more

I read this book in one sitting without even realizing it。The poems are mostly silly, weird and really humorous, but -surprisingly- a few are sad and deep。 However the illustrations are the icing on the cake。 They’re astonishing and truly complement the words very smoothly。 Take this book for what it is and you will be pleased。

Bo Burnham, I love you。 The way this was written will have you laughing one second, and thinking about life the very next。 I very much enjoyed it, and I’m glad I finally read it。

A fun book that makes you cry out of laughing at the same time it makes you think about the world。 Pretty Burnham-y。 Still, it's better watching him on stage。 A fun book that makes you cry out of laughing at the same time it makes you think about the world。 Pretty Burnham-y。 Still, it's better watching him on stage。 。。。more

I have been following Bo Burnham's work for years and I'm almost ashamed to admit that I've had this book sitting on a shelf since its release and haven't touched it until now。 Poetry is usually a hit or miss for me but I love that this collection really lets Burnham's snarky, funny and serious sides of his personality meld together into a random yet enjoyable collection of poems。 I also loved Chance Bone's illustrations that covered each page of the book to add fun dimension to each poem。Highly I have been following Bo Burnham's work for years and I'm almost ashamed to admit that I've had this book sitting on a shelf since its release and haven't touched it until now。 Poetry is usually a hit or miss for me but I love that this collection really lets Burnham's snarky, funny and serious sides of his personality meld together into a random yet enjoyable collection of poems。 I also loved Chance Bone's illustrations that covered each page of the book to add fun dimension to each poem。Highly recommend if you are a fan of Bo Burnham。 。。。more

A very weird collection of surprising and profound poems where the frequent theme in Bo's work in comedy specials and in his film is the theme of loneliness is present and is approached with the genius and humor that characterizes Bo Burnham。Una colección muy rara de poemas sorprendentes y profundos en donde se hace presente el tema frecuente en el trabajo de Bo en especiales de comedia y en su película el tema de la soledad y es abordado con la genialidad y humor que caracteriza a Bo Burnham。 A very weird collection of surprising and profound poems where the frequent theme in Bo's work in comedy specials and in his film is the theme of loneliness is present and is approached with the genius and humor that characterizes Bo Burnham。Una colección muy rara de poemas sorprendentes y profundos en donde se hace presente el tema frecuente en el trabajo de Bo en especiales de comedia y en su película el tema de la soledad y es abordado con la genialidad y humor que caracteriza a Bo Burnham。 。。。more

There are definitely some poems in here that haven’t aged well。 But far more are just wonderful to read: silly, happy, sad, profound, profane, you get the whole range

Loved every minute of it。

“Inside” energized me to look at other projects of Bo’s I had missed。 This book has its growing pains but is an interesting and youthful look at life’s social anxieties。 As funny and introspective as you expect from Bo。

If you've seen his stand-up shows you basically read a good portion of the book。I think it was still funny, but maybe after some time the jokes were。。。alright? Still a fan of Bo Burnham though but I think more as a performance than from a book perspective, even if this was on audio。 I wonder if reading this as a book would have a better experience than listening to it。 If you've seen his stand-up shows you basically read a good portion of the book。I think it was still funny, but maybe after some time the jokes were。。。alright? Bo writes like he performs, which helped me a lot because I often struggle with poetry。 This collection is silly, serious。 strange, and very much written by Bo Burnham。 That should tell you all you need to know about it。

I reread this after watching Inside, and it’s so interesting to look back on。 I love everything Bo puts out, and this book of weird and funny poems was no exception。 8 years later and I still cherish this book!

I enjoyed some of these poems quite a bit。 Others felt lazy。 Many felt vulgar and violent。 Many felt unnecessary。 I bet Bobert Burnham intended all of it。

AintGotTimeToRead

Some people see the world from different angles, and some people, the very twee and special ones, observe the absurdity of our lives through a kaleidoscope, chewing up what they see before spitting it at us through a straw。This is so louche, so enthralling, and the short, captivating poetry is embiggened by the astute observations。

They're were parts I loved。 And there were parts I wanted to live, but didn't。 In the end I read it; first page to the last。 And in between those pages, I only scrolled through my phone a little bit。 They're were parts I loved。 And there were parts I wanted to live, but didn't。 In the end I read it; first page to the last。 And in between those pages, I only scrolled through my phone a little bit。 。。。more

Love Bo Burnhan but this poetry book was a little disappointing。 Maybe because I wanted to get the book for so long and overhyped it in my head。 Felt like poor writing in some parts and just not funny。 Still glad I read it。

Anyone who is a fan of Bo will love this collection! The illustrations make it that much better as well。

Expected so much more from this - Love Bo Burnham but really didn’t like this

Okay what the fuck where do I even start。 I guess if I had to say something good about this book, it’s that Burnham has a decent grasp over structure and rhyme。 There are also bright spots and hints of legitimate talent here and there。 For the most part however, this collection is inconsistent, both in terms of tone and quality。 I understand that Burnham is a multifaceted person and all, but I’m just saying it’s kind of jarring to read about slaying puss immediately after reading something that’ Okay what the fuck where do I even start。 I guess if I had to say something good about this book, it’s that Burnham has a decent grasp over structure and rhyme。 There are also bright spots and hints of legitimate talent here and there。 For the most part however, this collection is inconsistent, both in terms of tone and quality。 I understand that Burnham is a multifaceted person and all, but I’m just saying it’s kind of jarring to read about slaying puss immediately after reading something that’s like a Shel Silverstein poem without charm, cleverness, or like, a joke。 Most of the “joke” poems in here were absolutely pointless and they’re made all the more worse when he shoehorns random social issues in to be more relevant or whatever。 They’re just a lot of nothing。 As for the “serious” poems, the lovey ones are largely banal cheese。 Or they’re weirdly dark。 And strangely enough, those are the poems I enjoyed the most despite Burnham’s reputation as a comedian。 I think that everyone should have an outlet to express their darkest impulses。 But that does not free him from criticism or judgment。 I don’t know if Burnham is writing from his own perspective in Sirens (which regrettably is not a terribly written poem), but if he is, I’m definitely not allowing him to be around young girls。 It opens like this: “I feel poetic when I say that the teenage girls at the mall rattled my psyche like wailing sirens / and that their freshly developed breasts could make for quite tempting cider” … and it just gets worse from there。 I’ve refrained from mentioning his questionable attitude towards women until now because I’ve given him the benefit of doubt。 Maybe these poems are his way of letting out that toxicity and dissecting his impulses。 However, I just don’t know if I can overlook the… borderline pedophilia? Despite all this, I did find some enjoyment in reading this book。 Not as a cohesive collection of well-crafted poems, but as a character study of Burnham himself; a messy and flawed chapter in his life。 Also worth mentioning are the illustrations, which I feel were infinitely more artistic than the poems。 I recommend this for fans who are parasocially attached to Bo Burnham and no one else。 。。。more

I love Bo, and I’ve loved Bo for a very long time。 Some of these poems were absolutely brilliant。 But a lot of them were kinda meh and dumb。 Some didn’t age super well。 Some aged very well。 Anyway, if you like Bo, go watch Inside instead of reading this。

breanna

i love bo。
